Elder Creek
Review of the creek conditions (original review):After rainfall it is possible to swim in Elder Creek. During dry conditions, there is a permanent pool of water just to the north of Great Central Road. The water in this permanent pool is poor quality, filled with algae that has bloomed due camels doing their poo in the water while drinking there.History of the creek:This creek was named by Ernest Giles on his exploration of the region in the 1870s.The Elder Creek system extends for over 50km, starting North-East of Warburton, bounding Warburton Community on the northern side and continuing south, parallel with the Connie Sue Highway. The traditional name for the part of the creek located near the Great Central Road is called Milyirrtjarra. It is important to note that Milyirrtjarra is a specific location along the creek. My research into the geographic naming conventions of the Ngaanyatjarra People suggests that they do not name entire creek systems other than calling them karru" (creek). My research indicates that the Ngaanyatjarra people think more practically about navigating from one specific location to another
